It’s important to understand exactly what “funded childcare” means.

What Is Funded Childcare?

The Government provides a set number of funded early education hours per year (termtime equivalent – 38 weeks).

This equates to a maximum annual allocation of hours. If stretched across the full year

(up to 50–52 weeks), this will reduce the number of funded hours available per week.

Funding is for early education and childcare only.

It does not cover:

Meals or snacks

Nappies, wipes or creams

Outings or special activities

Additional consumables

Extra hours outside the funded entitlement

Parents may supply their own consumables, 

or choose to purchase these from the setting.

All charges are fully transparent and 

clearly explained before a place is agreed.

As a small, home-based setting, I am committed to:

Maintaining safe ratios

Delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)

Ongoing training and safeguarding compliance

Providing quality resources and learning opportunities

All families are treated equally, whether accessing funded hours or privately paying.

Places are not prioritised, withdrawn, 

or changed based on funding status.

The Role of a Professional Childminder

Childminding is a regulated and inspected profession.

Your child’s place includes:

Individual learning and development planning

Progress tracking and assessments

Safeguarding and child protection responsibilities

Paediatric first aid and continued professional development

Risk assessments and health & safety compliance

Ofsted registration and inspection

Insurance, policies, and administrative requirements

Support for school readiness and emotional wellbeing

Funding contributes towards this provision. It does not fully cover the operational costs

of delivering high-quality childcare.
